# Technical team behind the guides.

Installers who fit new household appliances, writing from real openings and hookups and each maker's installation instructions.

## Who writes the guides.

The pages on this site come out of installation days in ordinary homes, most of them booked for the morning after a store has left a carton in the hall. A subject earns a guide when buyers ask us the same thing before the order and after the delivery: will this model fit the opening, does it need gas or a bigger circuit, who connects the water, why the new unit rocks, and what the display means when it shows a code on the first run.

What we write is drawn from appliances our installers have measured, connected and run in place: openings checked against the maker's drawing, gas joints leak-tested, drain hoses looped and clipped, exhaust runs measured end to end. A setup message is explained only once we have found it in that maker's own documents. Where a line relies on an installation manual it links to it, and where it relies on our own installs it says so.

Why a new appliance acts up on its first run, and which quirks settle on their own

## How a guide is written.

Four rules every guide on this site follows, from the first question to the last revision.

01

### Written from buyers' questions

Topics follow the words people use when they book an install or phone before ordering, and every guide starts with what a homeowner can do safely on their own: measure the opening and the way in, find the model number, locate the shutoffs, and keep the installation instructions.

02

### Checked against the installation instructions

Cutout sizes, clearances, the connectors and hoses a maker allows, duct lengths and the meaning of any setup code come from each maker's installation instructions and owner's manuals, and a line that depends on one names it.

03

### Where the homeowner's part ends

No guide here bends these lines. Gas in the air after a hookup: appliance and burners off, the shutoff closed, no flame and no switches, windows open, everyone out, and the utility or 911 called from outside. Water on the floor after a connection: close the supply valve, keep clear of outlets, breaker off from a dry panel. A burning smell or a trip on the first run: breaker off and left off. A laundry exhaust crushed or loose: stop the cycle, unplug, and wait until it reaches outside. Nothing here asks a reader to make a gas joint, open a refrigerant line, add a circuit or work in a live panel.

04

### Dated on the page

Each guide shows when it was first published and when it was last revised. The revision date moves when a maker changes the installation instructions a guide relies on.

## Questions about the guides.

### Who writes these installation guides?

The installers who carry out our home installations; what they measure and connect on site is checked against each maker's published installation instructions.

### Does any appliance maker or store pay for these guides?

No. We are independent of every appliance maker and retailer; none of them funds a guide or reads one before it goes up.

### I found a mistake in an installation guide. How do I report it?

Send it through the contact form with the guide's address and the sentence you mean. If it checks out, we rewrite the passage and the revision date on the guide moves forward.
