When it goes on well beyond that, or the flame is lifting, yellow and sooty, the usual cause is a fuel mismatch: a unit set up for natural gas fed from propane, or the other way round, without the conversion kit the maker specifies. Locate the gas valve and confirm it is fully open. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Is it safe to check the gas valve myself when GAS appears? Confirming a valve is open is fine, but LG's own guidance is to contact the installer if opening the valve does not resolve it on a newly installed unit, rather than working further on the gas line. ### Why would a brand-new gas laundry machine show GAS the very first time it runs? It usually means the gas valve was not fully opened after the connection was made, or the supply line still has a kink from being fitted behind the unit. ### Does GAS mean the gas line itself is damaged?
