Miele's own guidance describes a demonstration setting that keeps a cooking appliance's controls fully responsive while blocking heat entirely, deactivated through a specific sequence on the selector dial rather than by a technician. A unit delivered with this setting still active behaves exactly as if nothing were wrong with the display, because nothing is. Miele appliance display What to do when Demo mode shows on the appliance ### Kind of code Setup modes, not failures Nothing is wrong with the new appliance; it has come out of the carton in a state the store or the factory left it in. A showroom or demo mode lights the display and the fans while the unit never cools or heats, a Sabbath setting holds the oven light and hides the controls, a control or shipping lock refuses every key, and some laundry and dish care machines ask for a first calibration cycle before normal use. The manual gives the key sequence that turns each one off; once it is off, the appliance runs as it should. ### Usually leads to No installation Confirm the message shown on the display with OK, as Miele's own instruction describes. ### Shows up as Appliance Installation Code on a New Unit: Setup Modes and Hookup Messages An appliance installation code is a message a new unit shows because of how it was set up: a demo mode, a water or drain alert, a vent warning or a power check. ### Make Miele Miele installs include integrated dish care, laundry pairs, ovens and steam ovens, cooktops, hoods and built-in cold storage, each to a precise cutout. ### Source Miele USA customer assistance — demo mode, appliance does not heat up (oven) Confirmed on Miele's US customer-assistance pages for its oven and steam oven lines, both describing the same demo-mode message and exit sequence. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Miele's own guidance for Demo mode on its appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Confirm the message shown on the display with OK, as Miele's own instruction describes. 02 Turn the operating mode selector to the off or lighting-only position. 03 Follow Miele's documented sequence through the settings menu to the deactivation setting, then confirm with a long press of OK. 04 If the appliance still will not heat after this sequence, book a visit. ### Cleared? The message has gone from the display, the setting or connection behind it has been corrected, and the new appliance finishes a full first cycle without raising it again. A setup code that comes straight back after the hookup has been checked points to something the install missed, such as a kinked hose or a harness left unplugged, so note it when you book. ### What not to do This is not a failed heating element or control board. Miele's own manual treats it purely as a setting to be switched off, with a specific documented sequence rather than a repair. ## What you may notice with it. Confirm the message shown on the display with OK, as Miele's own instruction describes. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### How do I know if a new oven is in demo mode versus just not heating? Miele's own manual describes demo mode with an on-screen message that can be confirmed with OK, plus a specific selector-dial sequence to turn it off — a genuinely failed heating element wouldn't respond to that sequence at all. ### Is the deactivation sequence the same on every Miele oven? Miele documents the same P9/S0 selector sequence across its oven and steam oven lines in the sources checked here, though it's worth confirming against the exact model's own manual. ### Could demo mode turn itself back on later? Miele's own manual doesn't describe it re-activating on its own; it's a setting that stays as it's left until someone changes it again. --- **[Read on the site: Miele demo mode on a cooking appliance](https://applianceinstallation.center/error-codes/miele-demo-mode/)** **[Book a visit with ApplianceInstallation.center](https://applianceinstallation.center/schedule/)**
