Thermador's own support page for its electric and induction cooking appliances describes this as demo mode being activated: the display and touch controls stay fully live while every cooking zone is deliberately held off, the same behavior Thermador documents across its cooktop lines. A unit delivered with the setting still on will not heat regardless of how the controls are set. Thermador appliance display · also shown as D What to do when dE shows on the appliance ### Kind of code Setup modes, not failures Nothing is wrong with the new appliance; it has come out of the carton in a state the store or the factory left it in. A showroom or demo mode lights the display and the fans while the unit never cools or heats, a Sabbath setting holds the oven light and hides the controls, a control or shipping lock refuses every key, and some laundry and dish care machines ask for a first calibration cycle before normal use. The manual gives the key sequence that turns each one off; once it is off, the appliance runs as it should. ### Usually leads to No installation Switch the breaker feeding the appliance off at the electrical panel for a full 30 seconds. ### Shows up as Appliance Installation Code on a New Unit: Setup Modes and Hookup Messages An appliance installation code is a message a new unit shows because of how it was set up: a demo mode, a water or drain alert, a vent warning or a power check. ### Make Thermador Thermador installs include pro ranges and rangetops with their hoods, wall ovens and steam ovens, integrated column refrigeration and dishwashers. ### Source Thermador US error codes — electric cooktops Confirmed on Thermador's current US error-code pages for electric cooktops and induction cooktops, both showing the same fix. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Thermador's own guidance for dE on its appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Switch the breaker feeding the appliance off at the electrical panel for a full 30 seconds. 02 Restore power, then touch any control on the appliance within the next few minutes. 03 Confirm at least one cooking zone now responds to a normal setting. 04 If the setting returns on its own, book a visit instead of repeating the breaker cycle. ### Cleared? The message has gone from the display, the setting or connection behind it has been corrected, and the new appliance finishes a full first cycle without raising it again. A setup code that comes straight back after the hookup has been checked points to something the install missed, such as a kinked hose or a harness left unplugged, so note it when you book. ### What not to do This code does not mean a cooking zone's heating element has failed. The appliance is withholding heat on purpose while the setting is active, not failing to produce it. ## What you may notice with it. The appliance problem dE tends to arrive with. Switch the breaker feeding the appliance off at the electrical panel for a full 30 seconds. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### A new Thermador cooking appliance's display lights up but nothing heats. Is that demo mode? Very likely. Thermador documents the same demo mode behavior as its sister brand: the display and controls work, but every cooking zone is intentionally held off until the setting is cleared. ### How is demo mode cleared on a Thermador cooking appliance? Thermador's own fix is a 30-second power cut at the breaker, then touching any control on the appliance within the next few minutes once power is restored. ### Could an installer have left demo mode on by accident? It's more often left on from a showroom or a demonstration unit than switched on by an installer, since it's meant for retail display rather than everyday use. --- **[Read on the site: Thermador dE: demo mode on a cooking appliance](https://applianceinstallation.center/error-codes/thermador-de/)** **[Book a visit with ApplianceInstallation.center](https://applianceinstallation.center/schedule/)**
