Whirlpool describes Sabbath Mode on its refrigerators as designed to maintain food freshness while disabling water and ice dispensing and temperature adjustment, for households observing a religious Sabbath. Whirlpool appliance display · also shown as Sabbath Mode, Sab, 5Ab What to do when SABBATH MODE shows on the appliance ### Kind of code Setup modes, not failures Nothing is wrong with the new appliance; it has come out of the carton in a state the store or the factory left it in. A showroom or demo mode lights the display and the fans while the unit never cools or heats, a Sabbath setting holds the oven light and hides the controls, a control or shipping lock refuses every key, and some laundry and dish care machines ask for a first calibration cycle before normal use. The manual gives the key sequence that turns each one off; once it is off, the appliance runs as it should. ### Usually leads to No installation Confirm with the household whether Sabbath Mode is wanted before treating it as a problem to clear. ### Shows up as Appliance Installation Code on a New Unit: Setup Modes and Hookup Messages An appliance installation code is a message a new unit shows because of how it was set up: a demo mode, a water or drain alert, a vent warning or a power check. ### Make Whirlpool Whirlpool installs cover refrigerators, ranges, over-the-range microwaves, dishwashers and full-size and compact laundry, usually on existing hookups. ### Source Whirlpool support: Sabbath Mode, Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Confirmed on Whirlpool’s bottom-freezer refrigerator support page; the activation gesture and available modes vary by control panel across Whirlpool’s refrigerator platforms. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Whirlpool's own guidance for SABBATH MODE on its appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Confirm with the household whether Sabbath Mode is wanted before treating it as a problem to clear. 02 Press and hold the Mode button for the documented three seconds to cycle between Sabbath, Vacation and normal use. 03 Verify the cabinet is otherwise cooling normally, since Sabbath Mode does not stop refrigeration itself. 04 If the mode will not toggle off through the documented button sequence, book a visit rather than keep repeating the hold. ### Cleared? The message has gone from the display, the setting or connection behind it has been corrected, and the new appliance finishes a full first cycle without raising it again. A setup code that comes straight back after the hookup has been checked points to something the install missed, such as a kinked hose or a harness left unplugged, so note it when you book. ### What not to do Sabbath Mode disables dispensing and some controls by design — it is not a sign the unit failed to cool or that the control board is malfunctioning. A refrigerator that is actually warm while in this mode is a separate installation or cooling problem. ## What you may notice with it. The appliance problem SABBATH MODE tends to arrive with. Confirm with the household whether Sabbath Mode is wanted before treating it as a problem to clear. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why does my new Whirlpool cold storage unit have water and ice dispensing turned off? That is a symptom of Sabbath Mode, which Whirlpool designs to disable dispensing and some controls for religious observance. Holding the Mode button for three seconds cycles it back to normal use if it is not wanted. ### Does Sabbath Mode stop a Whirlpool cold storage unit from cooling? No — Whirlpool describes it as maintaining food freshness while disabling dispensing and adjustment controls; the cooling system keeps running normally underneath it. ### I can’t get Sabbath Mode to turn off on a newly installed Whirlpool cold storage unit — what next? Recheck the three-second Mode-button hold against the exact control panel on the door, since the gesture can differ by model generation. If it still won’t cycle off, book a visit rather than keep repeating it. --- **[Read on the site: Whirlpool Sabbath Mode: a religious-observance setting, not an error](https://applianceinstallation.center/error-codes/whirlpool-sabbath-mode-refrigerator/)** **[Book a visit with ApplianceInstallation.center](https://applianceinstallation.center/schedule/)**
