Westchase was founded in April 1991 after Hillsborough County commissioners approved the project, with new development following that September. ## What Westchase does to an appliance. The community sits in northwestern Hillsborough County about 17 miles from downtown Tampa, bordered on the west by Pinellas County. Westchase covers 10.7 square miles, of which about 8 percent is water.
