What Windermere does

The town sits on an isthmus between Lake Down and Lake Butler and covers just 1.57 square miles, almost entirely land.

In 2007 Windermere tried to annex the wealthy subdivisions of Isleworth and Butler Bay; Orange County objected over the property-tax revenue it stood to lose, and only Butler Bay was ultimately annexed after more than 90 percent of its residents approved by mail-in ballot.
