What Harris County does
to an appliance.

Where appliances sit in Harris County: family houses, cutouts and panel-ready fits, patio and pool installs.

All of Houston

Family houses

Where children are in the house, no cooking unit is set in place without its anti-tip bracket, and an installation there fixes the bracket, engages the leg and tests it by tilting the unit gently forward before the crew leaves.

Cutouts and panel-ready fits

Built-in columns and pro-style cooking units are heavy and tall, so they are anchored to the cabinetry or the wall as the maker specifies, and each unit's toe-kick ventilation is left open rather than closed off by trim.

Patio and pool installs

Appliances built into a patio island must be rated for outdoor use, and installing one there checks the model's rating before the unit is set into the island's cutout and its airflow openings are left clear.

Bellaire

Bellaire was founded in 1908 by William Wright Baldwin, president of the South End Land Company, and may have been named for Bellaire, Ohio, a town served by one of his rail lines.

Bunker Hill Village

German farmers settled the Bunker Hill Village area and built sawmills to process local lumber before the city ever incorporated.

Greater Heights

Houston Heights was founded as its own separate town before Houston annexed it, which is part of why many of its houses predate the surrounding parts of the city.

Hunters Creek Village

German farmers settled the Hunters Creek Village area and opened sawmills there before the community incorporated.

Kingwood

Kingwood is a 14,000-acre master-planned community in northeast Houston, marketed as the "Livable Forest" and the largest master-planned community in Harris County.

Memorial

Memorial's large wooded lots often hold a second kitchen or pool cabana, and an installation there covers appliances in several buildings, each with its own gas, water and electric supply confirmed before the units arrive.

Piney Point Village

Piney Point Village incorporated in 1955 under an alderman form of government.

River Oaks

River Oaks rebuilds often receive a kitchen of pro-style appliances at once, with large gas units and big hoods, and an installation there checks the gas line size, the duct diameter and whether the fan needs makeup air before any unit is connected.

Tanglewood

Tanglewood was developed by the Tanglewood Corporation, with builder William Giddings Farrington starting the subdivision in the 1930s.

West University

West University's lots are narrow and its newer houses fill them nearly edge to edge, so a delivery there often squeezes down a side drive to a back door, and an installation measures that path, gate and step by step, before the truck is booked.
