What Fort Bend County does
to an appliance.
Where appliances sit in Fort Bend County: newer developments, family houses, a second unit to hook up.
All of HoustonNewer developments
In a brand-new house the first appliance installation may be the first time the gas stub, the drain and the laundry outlet are ever used, so each is tested under load before the new unit is pushed into place.
Family houses
Growing families often move up to a larger laundry pair or a wider cold storage unit, and an installation there checks that the bigger model clears the doorway and the closet and still reaches the connections that served the old one.
A second unit to hook up
A second dish care machine, oven or laundry pair needs its own water, drain, gas or circuit, and the first step in installing one is learning whether those exist where it will stand or have to be added by a plumber or an electrician.

Cinco Ranch
Developer Terrabrook built out only the western portion of Cinco Ranch, west of Texas State Highway 99, leaving the rest to earlier developers.
Sugar Land
Sugar Land houses from the subdivision boom often have a 30-inch cooking cutout between cabinets, and an owner moving up to a 36-inch unit there learns at the site check that the cabinets, the gas stub and the hood above all have to change before installation day.
Fulshear
Fulshear was platted in 1890 by the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad and soon became a trade center, with old tombstones in the Fulshear Cemetery still marking many of the pioneer families who settled the area.
Katy
Katy was first formally settled in the mid-1890s as a railroad town along the Missouri-Kansas-Texas line, after earlier being known as "Cane Island" for the creek running through the area.
Missouri City
Missouri City's first Catholic church was built in 1913 and destroyed by a hurricane just two years later, and the community itself was not incorporated until 1956, more than 55 years after it began as a small settlement.
Richmond
Richmond, named for Richmond, England, was one of only 19 cities first incorporated by the short-lived Republic of Texas, back in 1837.
Sienna
Sienna, once called Sienna Plantation, is built on land that had operated as a sugar and cotton plantation in the 19th century before it became the master-planned community it is today.
