What Nassau County does
to an appliance.
Where appliances sit in Nassau County: mixed housing, cutouts and panel-ready fits, on the water.
All of New York MetroMixed housing
Where a house has been added onto over the years, the laundry or kitchen may sit in an addition with its own gas and water branches, and an installation there traces which branch serves the new unit before connecting it.
Cutouts and panel-ready fits
Panel-ready units arrive without their fronts, and fitting them means mounting the cabinetmaker's panels to the maker's template, setting the hinges for the panel's weight and lining up the reveals with the cabinet doors around them.
On the water
Waterfront homes often put a second cold storage unit, an ice maker or a grill on a covered deck, and installing one there checks that the model is rated for outdoor use and that its outlet is a protected, weatherproof one.
Where we go
in Nassau County.
11 cities and neighborhoods across Nassau County, part of New York Metro, 1 of them with a page on what that place does to an appliance. The same visit in each.
Great Neck
Great Neck is not one town but a peninsula split among nine incorporated villages, including Great Neck, Great Neck Estates, Great Neck Plaza, Kings Point and Russell Gardens, plus unincorporated hamlets, so which village hall issues a building permit depends on which of the nine a house sits in.
Garden City
The Incorporated Village of Garden City sits mostly within the Town of Hempstead, except for a small northern sliver that instead falls inside the Town of North Hempstead.
Jericho
Jericho's school-age population is split between two districts, Jericho Union Free and Syosset Central, whose boundaries do not exactly match the hamlet's own.
Manhasset
Manhasset sits on the Cow Neck Peninsula within the Town of North Hempstead, and unlike some neighboring hamlets it has no incorporated village government of its own.
Massapequa
Massapequa is named for the Massapequa people, a Lenape subgroup and one of Long Island's thirteen historic tribes who were the area's first known occupants.
Oceanside
Oceanside was first known as South Bay, then renamed Christian Hook by the English government in 1674 for the religious makeup of its colonists, before later taking its current name.
Port Washington
Port Washington is one of several hamlets on the Cow Neck Peninsula, alongside Manhasset and Sands Point, all governed as unincorporated parts of the Town of North Hempstead.
Rockville Centre
Rockville Centre's 2020 census population of 26,016 makes it one of the larger incorporated villages on Long Island's South Shore, inside the Town of Hempstead.
Roslyn
Roslyn's 2020 census population was just 2,988, one of the smaller incorporated villages on Long Island's North Shore even though it anchors the larger Greater Roslyn area around it.
Sands Point
Sands Point sits at the very tip of the Cow Neck Peninsula, a village of large estates within the Town of North Hempstead with a 2020 census population of 2,712.
Syosset
Syosset's schools and municipal services run through the Town of Oyster Bay rather than through any village government, since the hamlet itself was never incorporated.
