What Suffolk County does
to an appliance.
Where appliances sit in Suffolk County: seasonal houses, on the water, patio and pool installs.
All of New York MetroSeasonal houses
When a new unit goes into a house that will stand empty, the installer shows the caretaker where its water shutoff is and sets it the way the owners will want it on arrival, from ice making switched off to the temperature it should hold.
On the water
In a coastal hurricane zone a new outside cap for a hood or a laundry vent is chosen to hold in high wind, and the installation fits it tightly and seals the wall opening against driven rain.
Patio and pool installs
A grill or burner island on utility gas needs a line that a licensed plumber brings out to it, and the installation connects the appliance to that line and leak-checks every joint; one running on propane is fitted with the maker's propane setup first.

Southampton
The Incorporated Village of Southampton, established in 1894, serves as the Town Seat of the Town of Southampton and is the oldest incorporated village among the Hamptons.
Commack
Commack straddles two Suffolk County towns, Huntington and Smithtown, so which town hall handles a permit can depend on which side of the hamlet a house sits on.
Dix Hills
Dix Hills is an unincorporated hamlet whose 2020 census population of 26,180 is split across the towns of Huntington and Babylon rather than falling inside any single incorporated village.
East Hampton
The Village of East Hampton's population fell to 1,083 by the 2010 census, 251 fewer than in 2000, even as it anchors a much larger resort area known as the Hamptons.
Huntington
At 204,127 residents in the 2020 census, Huntington is the 11th most populous town in New York State, stretching across northwestern Suffolk County from Long Island Sound to the Nassau County line.
Lloyd Harbor
The village of Lloyd Harbor sits on a peninsula the Matinecock people called Caumsett, "place by sharp rock," before English settlers from Oyster Bay bought 3,000 acres of it in 1654.
Northport
Northport was originally called Great Cow Harbour by 17th-century English colonists before being renamed in 1837, and it incorporated as its own village in 1894.
Port Jefferson
The incorporated village of Port Jefferson, sometimes shortened to "Port Jeff," sits within the much larger Town of Brookhaven on Long Island's North Shore.
Smithtown
Smithtown had a 2020 census population of 116,296 across a town that takes in hamlets such as Kings Park and Nesconset along with several separately incorporated villages.
Stony Brook
Stony Brook has never been legally incorporated as a village, despite residents and tourists often calling it one, and it remains a hamlet within the Town of Brookhaven.
