What to do when OE shows on the appliance

The new appliance is reporting what it gets from the water connections behind it. A no-water or slow-fill message on the first fill usually means the supply valve is still closed or only half open, or the new line kinked when the unit slid back; a drain message means the drain hose is pinched, pushed too deep into the standpipe, or looped higher or lower than the installation instructions allow. Open the valve fully, straighten the hose, set it to the height the manual gives, and run the cycle again.

Can I clear OE myself?
Check the drain hose for a kink or clog along its full run to the disposal or drain connection. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why would a new dish care machine show OE if the drain hose looks connected?
A hose that looks connected can still be kinked out of sight behind the cabinet, or connected to a disposal whose knockout plug was never removed, both of which SKS names as documented causes.
What is a knockout plug and why does it matter for OE?
It is a small plastic piece inside a disposal's drain connection that has to be removed before a dishwasher hose is attached there; leaving it in place blocks drainage entirely.
Is OE more likely on an install with a long run to the sink?
A longer run gives more opportunity for a kink or a low point where debris collects, so it is worth checking the full length rather than just the connection points.
