The lit control panel of a newly installed built-in oven in a bright home kitchen, a small symbol glowing on the display with no readable characters, the oven door closed, a strip of protective film still on the oven's trim, nobody in the frame.

Asko SHO: showroom mode on a cold storage unit

ASKO's own manual lists SHO alongside an unplugged cord and a tripped breaker as reasons a unit will not run — grouping a display setting with the two most basic power checks.

What SHO
actually means.

ASKO's own manual lists SHO alongside an unplugged cord and a tripped breaker as reasons a unit will not run — grouping a display setting with the two most basic power checks. While SHO is active, the control panel works normally but the refrigeration system itself is deliberately held off, exactly like a unit on a showroom floor.

What to do when SHO shows on the appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from ASKO's own guidance for SHO on its appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press and hold the ALARM button and the minus pad together for five seconds, following ASKO's own sequence.

02

Watch for SHO to leave the display, confirming the setting has been turned off.

03

Give the cabinet a full day to reach temperature, since ASKO's own manual expects a full 24 hours for a freshly started unit to cool completely.

04

If SHO reappears on its own after being turned off, book a visit.

Cleared?

The message has gone from the display, the setting or connection behind it has been corrected, and the new appliance finishes a full first cycle without raising it again. A setup code that comes straight back after the hookup has been checked points to something the install missed, such as a kinked hose or a harness left unplugged, so note it when you book.

What not to do

SHO does not mean the compressor or the sealed system has failed. ASKO's own manual treats it purely as a display-floor setting, cleared with a button sequence rather than a repair.

What you may
notice with it.

The appliance problems SHO tends to arrive with. Answer these at the appliance before anyone is booked.

All problems

No installation indicated

Nothing to install.

Nothing is wrong with the new appliance; it has come out of the carton in a state the store or the factory left it in. A showroom or demo mode lights the display and the fans while the unit never cools or heats, a Sabbath setting holds the oven light and hides the controls, a control or shipping lock refuses every key, and some laundry and dish care machines ask for a first calibration cycle before normal use. The manual gives the key sequence that turns each one off; once it is off, the appliance runs as it should.

In ASKO's own words

If your control panel says SHO, then your showroom mode was enabled.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Confirmed on ASKO's US instructions for use for its RF2826S model; other ASKO cold storage models may use a different sequence, or may not offer this setting at all.

Questions
about SHO.

Can I clear SHO myself?
Press and hold the ALARM button and the minus pad together for five seconds, following ASKO's own sequence. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
How is SHO different from the unit simply being unplugged?
ASKO's own manual lists them side by side as separate causes of a unit that won't run, but SHO shows on the display itself while an unplugged cord shows nothing at all, so checking the display first tells them apart.
How long should I wait after clearing SHO before deciding the unit is actually working?
ASKO's own manual expects up to 24 hours for a freshly started unit to reach full temperature, so it's worth waiting a full day before judging whether clearing SHO solved the problem.
Can SHO be set again by accident during normal use?
The documented sequence is a deliberate button hold rather than something bumped accidentally in passing, so it's unlikely to be re-triggered by everyday use once cleared.

Back to your everyday

Still showing SHO?

A booking moves faster with three things: the message exactly as the display shows it, the model number from the carton or the rating plate, and the moment it first appeared. With those, the office can tell whether it is a setup step or a connection to put right, and send the part that fixes it.
