What dE
actually means.
Bosch's own support page for its cooktops and ranges ties 'dE' directly to demo mode: the appliance is fully powered and the display works, but every cooking zone is deliberately held off. Retailers use this setting to run a unit on a showroom floor without producing heat, and a unit delivered with it still active behaves the same way in a kitchen.

What to do when dE shows on the applianceKind of codeSetup modes, not failures
Nothing is wrong with the new appliance; it has come out of the carton in a state the store or the factory left it in. A showroom or demo mode lights the display and the fans while the unit never cools or heats, a Sabbath setting holds the oven light and hides the controls, a control or shipping lock refuses every key, and some laundry and dish care machines ask for a first calibration cycle before normal use. The manual gives the key sequence that turns each one off; once it is off, the appliance runs as it should.
Usually leads toNo installation
Turn the breaker for the appliance off for a full 30 seconds at the electrical panel.
Shows up asCold Storage Slow to Cool on the First Day
Cold storage slow to cool is a new refrigerator, freezer, wine or beverage unit that still feels warm inside many hours after its installation.
MakeBosch
Bosch installs cover every room: a dish care machine slid under the counter, a compact laundry pair, built-in cold storage, and gas or induction cooking.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Bosch's own guidance for dE on its appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Turn the breaker for the appliance off for a full 30 seconds at the electrical panel.
Turn the breaker back on, then touch any control on the appliance within the next few minutes.
Confirm the cooking zones respond to a normal setting once power is restored.
If 'dE' returns on its own after this sequence, book a visit rather than repeating the breaker cycle.
Cleared?
The message has gone from the display, the setting or connection behind it has been corrected, and the new appliance finishes a full first cycle without raising it again. A setup code that comes straight back after the hookup has been checked points to something the install missed, such as a kinked hose or a harness left unplugged, so note it when you book.
What not to do
dE does not mean a heating element or its control board has failed. Nothing about this code points at a part, since the appliance is intentionally withholding heat while the setting is active.
What you may
notice with it.
The appliance problems dE tends to arrive with. Answer these at the appliance before anyone is booked.

A booking moves faster with three things: the message exactly as the display shows it, the model number from the carton or the rating plate, and the moment it first appeared. With those, the office can tell whether it is a setup step or a connection to put right, and send the part that fixes it.
