The lit control panel of a newly installed built-in oven in a bright home kitchen, a small symbol glowing on the display with no readable characters, the oven door closed, a strip of protective film still on the oven's trim, nobody in the frame.

KitchenAid Demo Mode: a sales-floor setting, not a heating problem

KitchenAid documents Demo Mode as permitting the control features to be demonstrated without the oven turning on, a setting meant for the sales floor that can still be active on a unit delivered to a home.

What to do when DEMO MODE shows on the appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from KitchenAid's own guidance for DEMO MODE on its appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the settings/clock menu, or the Tools > Info path, for a Demo Mode entry before assuming a heating-element problem.

02

Follow the documented exit steps for the model—either the SETTINGS/CLOCK sequence or the TRY THE PRODUCT > EXPLORE > Tools > INFO > STORE DEMO MODE path.

03

Run a short bake test to confirm the oven heats once Demo Mode is off.

04

If the setting will not exit through the documented steps, book a visit rather than keep power-cycling the range.

Cleared?

The message has gone from the display, the setting or connection behind it has been corrected, and the new appliance finishes a full first cycle without raising it again. A setup code that comes straight back after the hookup has been checked points to something the install missed, such as a kinked hose or a harness left unplugged, so note it when you book.

What not to do

Demo Mode is a deliberate setting, not a wiring or element failure. An oven confirmed out of Demo Mode that still won’t heat points to a different problem.

All problems

No installation indicated

Nothing to install.

Nothing is wrong with the new appliance; it has come out of the carton in a state the store or the factory left it in. A showroom or demo mode lights the display and the fans while the unit never cools or heats, a Sabbath setting holds the oven light and hides the controls, a control or shipping lock refuses every key, and some laundry and dish care machines ask for a first calibration cycle before normal use. The manual gives the key sequence that turns each one off; once it is off, the appliance runs as it should.

Questions
about DEMO MODE.

Can I clear DEMO MODE myself?
Check the settings/clock menu, or the Tools > Info path, for a Demo Mode entry before assuming a heating-element problem. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
My new KitchenAid cooking appliance’s display works but it never heats — what should I check first?
Look for Demo Mode in the settings or Tools menu. It is a sales-floor setting that keeps the panel active while blocking the oven from heating, and it is meant to be switched off before real use.
Is Demo Mode the same as Sabbath Mode on a KitchenAid cooking appliance?
No. Demo Mode blocks all heating with the panel otherwise normal; Sabbath Mode instead keeps a bake cycle running continuously with sounds and display changes turned off. They are separate settings.
Can Demo Mode damage a new KitchenAid cooking appliance if it’s left on?
No — it is a normal factory setting with no risk to the appliance; it simply needs to be turned off through the settings menu before the oven is used for cooking.

Still showing DEMO MODE?

A booking moves faster with three things: the message exactly as the display shows it, the model number from the carton or the rating plate, and the moment it first appeared. With those, the office can tell whether it is a setup step or a connection to put right, and send the part that fixes it.
