Viking Sabbath Mode: lights and alarms turned off on purpose

Viking's refrigeration manual describes Sabbath mode as a setting the household turns on itself, entered and exited with the same SAB button, which keeps the compressor and cooling running normally while the interior light and door alarms stay off.

What to do when Sabbath Mode shows on the appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Viking's own guidance for Sabbath Mode on its appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press the SAB button to enter or exit Sabbath mode; the button lights up blue while it is active.

02

Confirm the unit is still cooling normally, since Sabbath mode does not affect temperature control.

03

If the button will not toggle the mode, note that it re-enters Sabbath mode automatically after a power loss and try again once power is stable.

04

If cooling itself is affected, book a visit rather than continuing to toggle the mode.

Cleared?

The message has gone from the display, the setting or connection behind it has been corrected, and the new appliance finishes a full first cycle without raising it again. A setup code that comes straight back after the hookup has been checked points to something the install missed, such as a kinked hose or a harness left unplugged, so note it when you book.

What not to do

Sabbath mode only changes the lighting and alarm behavior; it is not a sign the control board has failed, and it is not the same as Showroom Mode, which does stop the unit from cooling.

All problems

No installation indicated

Nothing to install.

Nothing is wrong with the new appliance; it has come out of the carton in a state the store or the factory left it in. A showroom or demo mode lights the display and the fans while the unit never cools or heats, a Sabbath setting holds the oven light and hides the controls, a control or shipping lock refuses every key, and some laundry and dish care machines ask for a first calibration cycle before normal use. The manual gives the key sequence that turns each one off; once it is off, the appliance runs as it should.

In Viking's own words

Sabbath mode is used to disable interior lights and alarms for observance of the Sabbath.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Confirmed on Viking's FBI7360W built-in refrigeration column; the SAB button re-enters the mode automatically if power is lost while it is active.

Questions
about Sabbath Mode.

Can I clear Sabbath Mode myself?
Press the SAB button to enter or exit Sabbath mode; the button lights up blue while it is active. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does Viking Sabbath mode stop the cold-storage column from cooling?
No. The manual is explicit that only the interior lights and alarms are disabled; the compressor and temperature control keep running as normal.
What happens to Sabbath mode on a Viking cold-storage column during a power outage?
The manual says the unit returns to Sabbath mode automatically once power comes back if it was active before the outage, so it does not need to be re-entered by hand.
How is Sabbath mode turned off on a Viking cold-storage column?
The same SAB button that turns it on turns it off; pressing it again exits the mode and the button's blue light goes out.

Back to your everyday

Still showing Sabbath Mode?

A booking moves faster with three things: the message exactly as the display shows it, the model number from the carton or the rating plate, and the moment it first appeared. With those, the office can tell whether it is a setup step or a connection to put right, and send the part that fixes it.
